Choosing a Venue, part 2

Choosing a Venue continued

Popular venues book up far in advance for prime Saturdays in the summer.  If you do not yet have your venue secured for your summer wedding, you need to make this your top priority!

To save time, utilize the internet to screen potential locations.  You can narrow your search down to your favorites, then call to see if they have an opening.  Remember, Saturdays in June, July, August and early September are booked first.  If the Saturday you want is not available, consider Sunday or Friday.

Some venues offer a lower rental price for Fridays and Sundays.  You also may have a larger choice of other vendors such as caterers and disc jockeys on Fridays and Sundays.

See our other post "Choosing a Wedding Reception Location" for additional tips.

Choosing A Wedding Venue

Choosing a Wedding Reception Location

Congratulations!  You've chosen your date and now need to find a location for your wedding reception.  Of course, you'll first look for venue that you love and that will hold the number of guests you expect to attend.

Other considerations to help you make your choice:

Call to see if your date is available first, then visit the site and do a walk through.  If you like it, it's the right size for your reception and the price is acceptable - book it right away!  Spaces fill up very quickly during wedding season.

Does the venue provide tables and chairs as part of their rental?  Renting tables and chairs can add to the total cost for the venue rental.  If tables and chairs are provided, who sets them up and takes them down?  Some venues provide that service as part of their rental.  Others charge extra for set up.  Ask if you can save money if you set them up yourselves.

Is there free parking available?  If your guests have to pay for parking, or you need to hire valet services, that will add to the cost of your reception.

Is there room to seat all  your guests and still have room for dancing?

Do you need to rent a tent if the weather is poor?  What is the plan for rain?

If you need help finding a location, go to the venue section of our web site

Wedding Shows

This time of year, there are lots of wedding shows coming up: from big ones in commercial spaces to small shows in individual rental locations.  Even some malls have wedding shows or expos.

How can a wedding show help you in your planning process?  Here are some tips to keep you from being overwhelmed:

Don't try to talk to all the vendors.  Choose the vendor category that you need first, such as a location, a caterer or a DJ.  Go to those booths, gather their information and speak with the vendors just a little to get an idea of their personalities.  Look for someone friendly and helpful.  Skip those that pressure you to "book right now!"

When you get home, sort through the material right away, while it is fresh in your mind.  Then start with one category at a time and go to their website.  The web site will tell you a great deal about the vendor:  good vendors have good web sites.  You should find all the information about the vendor that you need before you even pick up the phone to speak with them about your wedding.

Locations book up quickly, so you should secure your date with the venue first of all.  Then start with the key vendors.  Call for an appointment so you can see their place of business and speak with them one-on-one.

Remember, planning a wedding is a process.  Work on one aspect at a time - soon you will have the whole wedding planned and you can relax and have fun!

A Brides says....

You must use Snuffin's!!    posted 8/26/2011

"I was more than pleased with Snuffin's Catering. The staff was so wonderful and Sharon went over and beyond in order to make our wedding perfect. They have amazing skills ranging from excellent communication and customer service. The food went way beyond my expectations and tasted AMAZING!! Many of the guests approached me and commented on how great the food was and how it did not taste like the typical "wedding" food. I was amazed at how many delicious options there was to choose from. I would recommend Snuffin's to anyone that wants their day to be perfect and their food to be flawless! I do not have a single complaint."

This was posted on The Knot review site by Emily whose wedding was August 21, 2011 at Pt. Gamble Pavilion.  Thank you Emily!

Review from Gwen & Matthew

Gwen and Matthew posted the following review of our catering services on The Knot:

Delicious and Professional   posted 8/21/2011

Snuffin's left nothing to be desired throughout the whole process. We changed to Snuffin's later in the planning and never regretted it. Sharon and staff are very helpful and friendly. The food was perfect, all the guests raved about it. My nephew who is an extraordinarily picky eater went up for thirds! The staff noticed that I was gobbling up watermelon when ever I had the chance so they pack tons of it for our take away basket. The next morning it was surely devoured and appreciated! I would recommend them to anyone!

Thank you Gwen and Matthew!  It was our pleasure to be a part of your wedding day!

NEWS!

Big News at Snuffin’s Catering - Marnie Hayes has joined us as Director of Catering Sales & Operations!  She has over 15 years of catering experience in the Tacoma area and is well known for her business expertise as well as bubbly spirit.

Marnie and I have been friends for many years and it was perfect timing that she became available when I was ready to work less and have more time for myself and my community activities.

I will still be guiding the company and very involved with the food, quality and staff - just not in the office every single day.  I've been working toward this for some time, and now Marnie is the perfect addition to our wonderful staff.

Life is good!

Wedding Decor

We loved the decor elements of one of our weddings last weekend at Laurel Creek Manor!  The Bride and Mom had such wonderful vision - and we had the talented vendors to make it happen for them!

Wedding Aisle of Roses

Loved, loved the look of the white rose petals contrasted with the black satin ties on the chairs!

Crystal chandelier

The crystal chandelier with the pleated tent liner is so elegant!  Perfect for this sophisticated wedding theme.

Wedding Cost Estimate

What is the best way to get an accurate cost estimate for your wedding?

Resist the urge to choose the highest priced menus and rental equipment "just to see what it will come to". You will most likely be shocked!

The best plan is to start with the number of guests you are confident will attend.  Choose a menu that is in the price range you have decided upon.  Our web site is one of the few in the area that lists prices with the wedding menus.  This will help you stay at your desired price range.

Rental equipment such as tables, chairs, china or disposables and linens are of many different price points.  If you want an elegant look and have the budget for it, by all means plan for full china, glassware, etc.  If you need to keep to a lower price point, choose disposable products.  Ask your caterer if you can provide the disposables to save costs.

A simple, but elegant buffet will require less staff than a full, seated dinner.  Plated dinners also require additional serving and holding equipment that must be rented.  They also require kitchen staff on site as well as serving staff.

For most bridal couples, their wedding reception is the first time they have hired a caterer.  We want it to be a wonderful experience for you!

Rain on Your Wedding Day?

What  happens when it rains on your wedding day?  Since we live in Washington state, even the best summer months have a risk of bad weather.

If you have your reception in an indoor venue, all you'll need is a big umbrella!

Outdoor weddings are more interesting in rainy weather.  This summer of 2011 has been the wackiest weather that we can remember! 'Way too much rain and wind and hardly any sun!

At Snuffin's Catering, we are specialists in planning outdoor weddings and always have a back up plan for rain on your wedding day.  We will make a plan for tenting on an as-needed basis, or the tent will be part of the plan from the beginning.  We will give you a written quote from a rental company that will ease your mind and cover your guests.

Need some information about tenting? Call Snuffin's at 253-851-2900.
